Historic Baseball Collectibles Showcased in May Auction

Robert Edward Auctions, a renowned name in the sports collectibles industry, has kicked off its highly anticipated May Encore auction, dazzling enthusiasts with a vast array of treasures. With over 3,600 lots up for grabs, the auction spans from complete 1950s baseball card sets to rare vintage cards and unique memorabilia pieces, offering a rich tapestry of sports history.

At the forefront of this expansive auction are iconic baseball cards that have stood the test of time. Among the standout lots is a T206 White Border Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder card from 1909-1911, sporting the coveted Uzit back. Also turning heads is a Ty Cobb rookie card from the 1907 Wolverine News Postcard series, showcasing the early days of baseball card collecting.

Delving deeper into the vintage baseball card realm, the auction features gems like the 1957 Topps Complete Set and a nearly complete 1958 Topps set. The collection boasts high-grade cards from the 1950s Bowman and Topps sets, including rookie cards of baseball legends such as Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, and Sandy Koufax. A complete set break of the iconic 1951 Bowman set adds to the allure of the offerings.

Beyond the realm of cards, the auction delves into sports memorabilia, with highlights like a ticket stub from the 1957 NFL Championship Game and a 1920 Real Photo Postcard featuring the Harvard football team that graced the Rose Bowl. These pieces not only capture moments in sports history but also provide a tangible connection to the past.

REA President Brian Dwyer exudes enthusiasm for the auction, noting the exceptional quality of the lots following the success of their recent $15.4 million spring sale. With a keen eye on collector interest and the premium nature of the items on offer, Dwyer anticipates a lively bidding atmosphere filled with excitement and nostalgia.

Enthusiasts and collectors alike can partake in the auction frenzy until May 19 through the REA website. Each item kicks off with a bid of $10, presenting a golden opportunity for aficionados to add rare and high-end sports memorabilia to their collections. More than just a bidding event, this auction serves as a tribute to the rich history encapsulated in sports collectibles, celebrating the legacy of the games we hold dear.
